And can I just say on behalf of the judges that looking at these pictures over lunchtime was a really bad idea. *stomach rumble*

These limited editon kits were produced to celebrate Canon SLR's 50th birthday - all you have to do is follow the instructions and do some clever paper-folding-and-glueing, and you'll be left with your very own paper retro SLR. Other Hobbies...really? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Geoaddy

Good afternoon DSLR User Land,

As you may have come to expect, I'm on the hunt for pictures again. But this time a whole picture feature. Do any of you have any hobbies that you, or your friends/family, partake of and photograph? It can be anything from kart racing to cross stitch, tennis to miniature train sets; basically anything that you love to photograph in your spare time, I'd love to take a look at the pictures and find out about just how you go about creating your images, both optically and using image editing.

Can you please send a selection (portfolio of images showing a variety of views, lenses, lighting techniques, subject matter, details – about 15-20 or so) of low res (10x8-in, 72dpi) JPEG files to me directly so I can take a look to see if they're suitable for inclusion in the magazine. My email address is: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . I have about two weeks from 29th June to sort the pictures/features. I will need some copy from those chosen, but I will cover this with those I shortlist. I looking for 2-3 reader's hobby 'portfolios', each will be between 4-6 pages within the magazine.

I will look forward to hearing from you and seeing your hobby pictures.

Thanks,

Adam

Olympus E-P1 / Pen unboxing... E-mail
Written by charlieG

There are times when it really, really pays to work for a photography magazine - and yes, this is one of those times. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you....

The Olympus PEN! Apparently there are only two in the country at the moment (waits for barrage of counter-claims) – either way, I'm honoured, and thought you all might like to see what's in the box. Bear in mind I have teeny hands so scale's probably a bit off. And I probably should have thought of that before starting. Never mind - onwards!

Liverpool Cathedral Photographic Competition PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sarah

Liverpool Cathedral is launching its first ever Photographic Competition. People of all ages and abilities are invited to submit images inspired by the Cathedral over the summer months. Judging will take place throughout September by a panel, which includes Lord Derby and local artist Anthony Brown, and culminates in a week long exhibition and Awards evening in October.

The theme of the competition is ‘My Cathedral’ and entries must have the Anglican Cathedral at their heart. Whether it’s an architectural shot of the bell tower or a panoramic cityscape taken from the river, all entries are welcome!

Liverpool Cathedral has collaborated on this project with the international award-winning local photographer Martin Birchall. Until recently, Martin was the photographer for the Liverpool Echo and Daily Post newspapers and first prize will be the opportunity to learn some tricks of the trade with him during a half day master class. Other prizes include a luxury stay at Liverpool’s award-winning design hotel Hope Street Hotel and a full-day portrait photography experience courtesy of Venture Liverpool.

Rules and Entry forms can be downloaded from the Cathedral's website or picked up from the Cathedral’s Welcome Desk.
